As great a resource as the Catechism is, it neither has authority of its own nor does it contain the whole of the Catholic faith.  Canon Law is likewise limited to the practical and temporal aspects of our faith, it cannot cover spiritual realities.

There are other Church documents that do cover nearly all areas of the spiritual life: from the purpose of fasting, the necessity of the teaching on contraceptives, etc.
